YDP INITIATIVES

Louisiana Fire Juniors and United States Soccer Federation Initiatives

  • Mentoring Program

Young YDP coaches are required to go through the Louisiana Fire Mentoring Program. Young coaches are paired with experienced coaches at the club to further their education.

  • Numbering System

Players and coaches use the international numbering system to identify positional roles and responsibilities.

  • 600+ Touches

The first 30 minutes of training is designed to maximize the number of touches on the ball for each player.

  • Playing Out of the Back (USSF)

Started 3 years ago at our club, playing out of the back is now a nation-wide initiative next year. We believe passing through all 3 thirds of the field provides an opportunity to develop players at a faster rate.

  • Challenge Week (Challengers only)

Twice (2) per season, Challengers participate during weekend games with teams selected by skill pods. This will provide every player with a specific skill appropriate game, giving the opportunity to successfully contribute and participate against another Challenger team of carefully balanced ability and skill level.

  • Standardized Curriculum

Directors of coaching have designed lesson plans for all of our YDP coaches to execute if needed for training. We also require coaches to uniformly perform well crafted and effective activities.

  • Trade Throw-ins for Pass-ins (Juniors Only)

We believe by using kick-ins instead of throw-ins, our YDP Juniors can learn the spatial relationships of beginning play from the sidelines, while also getting more touches with their feet.

  • Goalkeeping Initiative

Coaches develop goalkeepers for the age group during the game weekend by playing 3 goalkeepers per game.

Goalkeeping is arguably the most important and difficult position on the field. We encourage all players to explore the position and examine their natural talents.
